Writing this book is quite possibly the most selfish thing I have ever done.

After living the first 30 years of my life as a prisoner of circumstance - blaming everyone and everything around me for my hopelessness, my anger, my stress and even my obesity; waiting to finally get a "break" and confidently proclaiming that my victim personality was permanent and " just the way I am" (I'm sure none of you reading this can relate) - I finally discovered the simple and powerful distinction that helped me transition from a helpless, exhausted, overwhelmed, and overcommitted prisoner to a creative, conscious, and courageous self-leader.

While it's true that as a speaker, trainer, and coach, I could tell you I wrote Prison Break because I was so passionate about sharing with you what I know has been the most pivotal piece of my personal transformation, it's only half of the self-serving story.

I also wrote it because it is the book I needed to read (and will no doubt refer to for the rest of my life for a gentle reminder...or 40) to help me see through the lies, myths, and fundamental misunderstandings I held for so long about how the world worked. (Spoiler It never seemed to "work" for me until I developed this new understanding; these new tools.)

What you will find in this book is not an instruction manual but rather a destruction manual - breaking down the self-imposed walls and barriers that I worked so tirelessly to erect over the first few decades of my life and that I have seen affect so many of the thousands of people I have met, trained, and coached.

If you believe that today is the first day of your life then your best bet is to read Prison Break. Here are just a few of the many ideas that resonated with me:
Chapter 1 – The Day the Universe Cut Me Off – there, in that very first chapter I came face-to-face with myself and my “overweight/over-wait” self. I had known for years that I had created my prison, but it wasn’t until I read Chapter 1 that I realized that I could break free!
Chapter 14 – The Upside of Comparison – forced me to see that qualities that I encourage others to employ in order to gain success not only are valid but that they apply to me as well as to my friends and colleagues. Taking stock of my strengths, taking inventory of my current goals, and taking the time to meditate when I feel frightened help me reach a state of flow and the ability to do what I need to do. I teach these techniques to others, but not until I read this book did I realize I can call on those techniques whenever I need to.
Chapter 31 – At 87 MPH Marty Gets Killed by the Libyans – is a great reminder that it may take just the tiniest bit more effort for you to accomplish your goals. The fact that you aren’t there yet doesn’t mean you can’t make it. It just means that you can’t give up.
Chapter 33 – You Say You Can’t Do It… I Agree – taught me that the tools that I’ve used for myself and for coworkers over the years are techniques that I can share with my children and grandchildren to help them with the most important work of all – addressing challenges from the perspective of someone in control instead of from the perspective of a prisoner. But on days when I can’t quite get in command of those critical tools, I can use the robot!!! Trust me, this one chapter justifies the time-and-money cost of the entire book. And then, in the next chapter, JT makes a simple suggestion gives me access to my best life: instead of picturing the rest of your life great detail, picture how you want to feel at the beginning and end of an average day, what you want to create and whom you want to serve during that day. Commit to creating those feelings and accomplishments in your future without having to pre-plan every detail.
Finally, remember you always can break the bottle. By the time you finish the book not only will you know what this means, but you also will have the ability to start functioning as a Self Leader.

Prison Break Vanquish the Victim Own Your Obstacles and Lead Your Life (Audible Audio Edition) Jason Goldberg Books Reviews

This book changed my life. It could save my relationship too. My husband left me again and I am now a self leader that told him to leave his green eyed monster, passive aggressive, nasty Gary in the USA. I'm a Canadian living and working on a green card in the USA. I make too much $. My middle class taxes pay for the Rich and the poor. I don't mind supporting the little guy but I abhor funding the lazy. Jason provides this book for free on and dozens of my friends have reaped the benefit. This review isn't about me and my baby assassin felt the need to tell you about what Obamacare did to me. I apologize. If your friends are too poor to afford the free kindle app on on their phone or computer do what I do and order a paper copy. Buy them one, it helped Katie and Ruth. I encourage everyone to read this book themselves, about 4 times because you get something new every time. You mind opens to leadership more and can see more happiness every time you read it. Jason Goldberg's book saved my life! Let him save yours too!
In PRISON BREAK, author Jason Goldberg has penned a modern self-help classic, rich in wisdom and wit, in a voice so personal, it comes across as a series of letters written by a friend. Beyond the courageous narrative of Jason's own journey from "prisoner" to "self-leader," the book offers a generous distillation of entertaining, ingenious, and practical pointers the reader can use to follow Jason's lead and make the same, life-changing transition. On every page, the reader is called to take up creative responsibility for his or her life, to let go of overly limiting assumptions and self-definitions, and call upon the alchemy of choice to transmute adversity into opportunity. While the coaching directions Jason delivers in PRISON BREAK are simple and can be put into practice immediately, their roots reach far deeper than merely "putting on rose-colored glasses" or "making lemonade." Working with the infrastructure of belief, Jason explores and guides the reader in the all-important work of steady and patient self-improvement through responding rather than reacting, engaging the world and others in a spirit of curiosity and collaboration rather than complaint, vanquishing the inner victim, rediscovering the joy of living playfully, the way we did when we were kids, before we learned how to be prisoners. If you're serious about bettering your life from the inside out, you’ll likely find PRISON BREAK an essential resource and reference.
